Biography
Salomon Jakob Tiefenbrunner was born on 7 February 1843 in Wieliczka, Galicia. He married Miriam Perlberger there on 7 November 1865, and they had two sons, Alfred Alter and Kalman. In 1918 he and his wife were injured in a pogrom in Wieliczka. He died there on 1 February 1919 and was buried at Klasno.

The Wieliczka pogroms of 1917–1918 refer to waves of anti-Jewish rioting and looting in the West Galician salt-mining town of Wieliczka, near Kraków. They were primarily driven by acute wartime food shortages, economic resentment, and deep-seated social tensions that boiled over as the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed.
From the book: The crowd then mobbed the main square, breaking Jewish windows and robbing Jewish-owned shops.“False stories of all sorts circulated, among them one that could have led to incalculable catastrophe, namely, that in Efroim Joachimsmann’s house the young boy Kozubski had been murdered or was hidden, and that Joachimsmann’s hands were bloody.” Later the crowd moved to the Jewish Klasno district, plundering and injuring“practically fatally, elderly communal chief Salomon Tiefenbrunner and his wife with blows to the head with a bottle.”
