Former factory‑workers' estate on Lake Windermere in the Lake District. In August 1945 the Central British Fund (CBF) flew in about 300 young survivors — gathered largely at Theresienstadt (Terezín) — as the first group of "the Windermere children." Tyla Beeri (née Estrajcher), then seventeen, was among them: liberated at Žacléř and recovering at Přemysl Pitter's homes near Prague, she was moved through Prague to the airlift. She stayed at Calgarth from August 1945 into 1946.
