Biography
Chonon Katz, also recorded as Chonon Kac, was born around 1868 in Vilnius and worked as a saddler, a son of Mowsza Lejzer Katz and Michla Katz. He married Judes Telz, and by the mid-1920s the couple lived at 4 Maironio Street; they had three children, Emma-Etel, Chiena and Rachmiel Alter. After Judes's death he remarried, to Chana Gruzowik, on 4 November 1934 in Vilnius. His last recorded home, to August 1937, was Flat 18, 11 Stiklių Street, Vilnius. He died there on 13 August 1937, of cecum cancer.
