Letty Zlata Schmidt

Letty Zlata Schmidt was born on 27 February 1923 in Berlin, a daughter of Aaron Hillinger and Balima Schmidt. On 26 September 1942 she crossed illegally into Switzerland as a refugee. She married Peter Francis Bird, and they had two daughters, Karin Elizabeth and Kristina Dianne. By 1960 the family lived in San Jose, California, and Letty was naturalised as a US citizen in California in 1972; she later lived in Palo Alto. She died in Cambridge on 30 November 2015.
