Biography
Hela Markowicz, later known as Helene Ernst, was born on 25 May 1922 in Łódź. During the war she was held at the Hasag-Pelcery forced labour camp in Częstochowa. She married Itzchak Ernst Estreicher, and on 22 September 1949 the couple emigrated from the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp to the United States, settling in Michigan, where they had two children, Albert and Lynn Meredith. She died in Michigan on 6 April 1994 and is buried at the Machpelah Cemetery.
