Notes

City in south‑eastern Latvia with a large pre‑war Jewish population. Itzik Turetz, fleeing Kaunas in the first weeks of the German invasion, was caught up here and held in the Daugavpils (Dünaburg) prison, ghetto and fortress from July 1941 until October 1943, when he was moved on into the Latvian camp system. Yakov Turetz was shot in Dvinsk prison, probably in 1941.
