Biography
Josef Baruch Mandelbaum was born on 10 July 1916 in Niwka, Sosnowiec, and worked as a shopkeeper. He was deported to Auschwitz, arriving on 11 February 1943 as prisoner 101019, and was later transferred to Buchenwald, where he was registered on 13 August 1944 as prisoner 104914. He was moved to Flossenbürg concentration camp, reaching it around 16 April 1945, and then to Dachau, arriving there on 27 April 1945, two days before its liberation by American forces. He married Chawa Szternberg in Tel Aviv on 12 October 1947, and they had two sons, Itzhak Efraim and David. Josef died in Tel Aviv on 25 April 2007 and is buried, beside Chawa, at the New Ramat Hasharon Morasha Cemetery.
