Notes

Industrial city in the Zagłębie Dąbrowskie coal basin, annexed directly into the German Reich in 1939. Home town of the Estrajcher (Estreicher) and Szternberg families — of 55 recorded events (1855–1942), 39 are births. The family kept a haberdashery and dry‑goods shop founded by Symcha Binem Estrajcher in 1897 at Modrzejowska 19, where several generations also lived. Tyla Beeri (née Estrajcher) was born here in 1927. From 1940 the Jews of Sosnowiec were concentrated in the Środula district; deportations to Auschwitz in 1942–43 ended the community, and most of the family recorded here was murdered.
