Biography
Ruth D Scharf, later Ruth Ettleson, was born on 12 January 1933 in Karlsruhe, a daughter of Leo Leizer Scharf and Jeanette Tiefenbrunner. In June 1937 she reached Ellis Island with her family aboard the SS Paris and grew up in Chicago. She married Maurice Dale Ettleson and they had three children, Michael, Sherry and Linda. Ruth died in Chicago on 17 March 2025 and is buried at Shalom Memorial Park, Arlington Heights.

Ruth Ettleson nee Scharf, 92, beloved wife of Maury for just shy of 68 years, loving mother of [living relative], [living relative] and [living relative]; cherished Grandma of Matthew (Melanie), Daniel (Inga), Lizzy (Jai), Jake, Rose, Maya, Ari, Hale and Ilana; adored great grandmother of Nolan and Milo. Many thanks to Ruth’s loyal caregivers, Grace, Kornelia, Krystyna, Mayra, and Jolanto. Ruth was a cook extraordinaire and will be remembered for her delicious meals and desserts. She also took pleasure from weaving, quilting, beading, and needlepoint, but her real passion was her family.
