Notes

Capital of the former Grand Duchy of Baden. The Tiefenbrunner, Beeri and Sigall families lived here in the 1920s–30s. Zeev Beeri (born Wolfgang Tiefenbrunner) was born here in 1927 and went to the Gartenschule; Kalman and Rachel Beeri settled here in 1924; Hermann Tiefenbrunner worked here. From 1938 the events turn to persecution: the correspondence around the "Polenaktion" expulsion of Polish Jews (October 1938), a Fremdenpass issued to the stateless, a child identity card, and finally deportation. Alfred Tiefenbrunner and Sarah Rachel Scharf were expelled to Poland in 1938–39; Levi Sigall's deportation correspondence dates from the same period.
