Bill Smith

Bill Smith, born Wolfgang Schmid and also known as William Smith, was born on 31 May 1917 in Chemnitz, a son of Leib Schmidt and Chaja Debora Schneeweiss. He arrived in New York on 23 December 1938. On 31 August 1941, in New York City, he married Marianne Blatt, and they had two daughters, Lorraine Ruth and Evelyn. He registered for the WWII draft in 1942, and was naturalised in Winnebago County, Illinois, on 12 April 1944. He died in the United States on 17 October 1989 and is buried at the Temple Bnai Abraham cemetery, Meriden.
