Biography

Rachel Szternberg was born on 20 March 1905 in Sosnowiec, a daughter of Icek Szternberg and Frajda Jochweta Krakauer. She married Haim Fainer, and on 20 February 1935 the couple first entered Palestine, settling in Ra'anana. She worked as a shopkeeper from 1940 and obtained Palestinian citizenship on 19 February 1940. She and Haim had two daughters, Tzipora and Tova, and it was in their Ra'anana home that Rachel's niece Tila (later Beeri) and nephew Yitzhak stayed after reaching Palestine. Rachel died in Ra'anana on 17 April 1976 and is buried at the Old Cemetery there.
